บทคัดย่อ

This study was directed at the participatory processes in the generation of Pgaz K’ Nyau Indigenous people [Karen] community eco-museum in Tak Province of Thailand, the objectives of research were; 1] to study the initiating processes and models in initiating a community eco-museum which responds to the indigenous geo-cultural context of the Pgaz K’ Nyau Indigenous people.

The qualitative methodology of this research was based on a Participatory Learning and Action approach. The research instruments consisted of community mapping; focus group discussion; in-depth Interviews; transect walk; participatory observation; and voice of seeds.

            The findings of this study were. The processes of community establishment/ management of an eco-museum included: [1] community self-reflection; [2] discovery of a sense of place; [3] definition of sense of place; [4] participatory decision making about the community eco-museum; and [5] decision making on the role and directions of the eco-museum. The most appropriate model for the eco-museum is one that: does not emphasize a museum “building”; focuses on “sense and spirit of space and site”; and reflects the diversity of relational dimensions of cultural heritage.
