Abstract

This research aimed to design and build the power generation system by low-pressure steam turbine for once-through boilers, to study the parameters which affect to the mechanical performance of power generation system by low-pressure steam turbine and to analyze breakeven point of investing in the power generation system installation. The steam pressure control is 0.5-3.0 kg/cm2 and steam rate is 6-50 kg/hr, with steam nozzles at 1, 2 and 3 and the power generation testing by low-pressure steam turbine to be installed with the set alternator. The results of the tests were used to analyze the performance and overall efficiency of the power system by low-pressure steam turbine. The results of the study showed that in case of testing at maximum 3 nozzles and maximum pressure of 3.0 kg/cm2, the mechanical power of the low pressure steam turbine maximum is 3.00 kW and maximum mechanical efficiency is 2.61%. The electrical power of the low pressure turbine system maximum is 0.31 kW and maximum overall efficiency is 0.87%. The economic evaluation compared with the power generation by low-pressure steam turbine system on the cost of the system building, the return of electricity cost saving is 11,871.83 baht/year, and payback period is about 7.54 years.
