Abstract

This research aims to design and develop an embedded system for greenhouse of cantaloupe cultivation and compare the growth and yield of sunlady 227 cantaloupes between planting in a greenhouse which addition light from bulbs (the first greenhouse) and a natural light greenhouse (the second greenhouse). The embedded system assembled from Arduino Uno R3, digital light sensor, real-time clock and solid-state relay. A firmware of the system was developed with two main functions: (1) increasing the light level in the greenhouse when the natural light is lower than desire value; and (2) adjustable the amount of nutrient solution per day. The first planting showed that the fruit production of the first greenhouse was harvested in 49 - 52 days after planting with the average weight of 1,020 grams and the average sweetness of 14.2 °Brix. While the fruit production of the second greenhouse was harvested in 49 - 52 days after planting with the average weight of 897 grams and the average sweetness of 14.8 °Brix. The second planting indicated that the fruit production of the first greenhouse was harvested in 49 - 53 days after planting with the average weight of 1,366 grams and average sweetness of 8.8 °Brix. While the fruit production of the second greenhouse was harvested in 49 - 53 days after planting with the average weight of 1,324 grams and average sweetness of 9.8 °Brix.
