Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF POTENTIAL OF THAI LOGISTICS SERVICE PROVIDER FOR ASEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY

The objectives of this study are to examine the impact of logistics services liberalization in ASEAN Economic Community on various types of Thai logistics service providers and to propose measures for Thai public and private sectors in dealing possible impacts resulting from logistics service liberalization. Logistics is one of priority economic sector that ASEAN accelerate the regional integration by determining that any ASEAN member country shall allow other member countries to have equity participation in selected logistics services not less than seventy percent as well as removing cross border service restriction and reducing labor mobility restrictions within 2013.

Logistics service liberalization benefits users as a result of having higher competition and service efficiency whilst various types of Thai logistics service provider are affected in different ways. Non transport logistics service providers are considered as a group having significant impact from liberalization. Public and private sectors should accelerate the adjustment to develop potential of Thai logistics service provider for ASEAN Economic Community by introducing measures to promote the development of logistics business, development of facilities to support the operations of logistics service business, support the establishment of logistics domestic and foreign networks, and the development of skill and foreign languages of human resources.
