Abstract

The Feasibility of Certificate Application on Private Labour Standard Social Accountability 8000 (SA 8000) : A Case Study of BOI Promoted Export-Large Manufacturing Factory in Songkhla Province

This research studied cThe feasibility of certificate application on private labour standard on social accounatability (SA 8000) : A case study of BOI promoted export-large manufacturing factory in Songkhla Provincee by studying 23 large manufacturing factories. The objectives are to study the feasibility of certificate application, obstacles and limitations of achievement, and propose its solution. Survey research is the method for this research.

The research found that it is highly positive that the export-large manufacturing factory in Songkhla Province can achieve the SA 8000.

Obstacles to achieving SA 8000 are the declination to comply with the requirements on the working regulation of child labor aged below 18 years old, pledge money, health and safety training, independence to participate in labor union, overtime working hour and employment contracts against the law, and including the managementus ignorance to the importance of SA 8000 and their lack of comprehension on SA 8000.

The solution for those obstacles shall be the common responsibilities of governmental sectors and the management team of industrial factories. The governmental sectors are responsible for enhancing, supporting the knowledge and understanding on SA 8000, including reinforcement on principle of labour law. The management team shall be in charge of improving and developing the internal management of their own business to meet the labour standards.
