Abstract

Nowadays, logistics and maritime transport management are increasingly playing an important role to international trade and investment. Effective logistics system reduces total costs and also increasingly improves the service level. Many countries have now requested to Thai government to open the logistics service liberalization, especially maritime transport sector. Its objectives are to study a capability level of Thai maritime transport, including assessing their readiness and adjustability to trade in services liberalization between Thailand and trade partners. To examine the above issues, questionnaire survey and in-depth interview are conducted through 45 and 22 respondents respectively. Data processing is done by SPSS14.0. The results show that Thai maritime transport firms have readiness and adjustability toward logistics service liberalization, in medium to high level Most of them lack knowledge and understanding to the effect of logistics service liberalization. Domestic law and government sectors play a significant role to firms’ adjustability. According to assessing benefits and costs analysis if opening the liberalization, SME firms are mostly potential adversely effects. On the other hand, logistics users would get the higher benefits for gaining higher responsiveness and lower cost reduction. It provides recommendations for readiness and adjustability toward logistics service liberalization to firms. Government sectors would provide knowledge about logistics liberalization to firms to maximize benefits and reduce future impact of opening logistics liberalization.
