Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental pretest-posttest one group design was to examine the effect of the mutual goal setting nursing program on activities of daily living among patients with stroke. The sample in this study were twenty-seven strokes patients admitted in the medical department at Buddhachinaraj phitsanulok Hospital. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample. The participants received the mutual goal setting nursing program to develop on their activities of daily living. The research instrument was the mutual goal setting nursing program on activities of daily living among patients with stroke. Data collection instruments consisted of the questionnaire for personal data and the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Questionnaire. The reliability of the ADL Questionnaire was .87 when tested with Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient. Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, and paired t-test were used to analyze data.


The results of the study revealed that the participants had the average posttest activities of daily living score at 97.04 and the average posttest activities of daily living score was significantly higher than the average pretest activities of daily living score (p<.05).


The results of this study reflect that the mutual goal setting nursing program can improve activities of daily living and rehabilitation of stroke patients continuously, resulting in increasing levels of activities of daily living.
