บทคัดย่อ

Women after childbirth have various physicals and psychosocial changes especially in their reproductive system. These changes may contribute to sexual dysfunction. This was a retrospective descriptive correlational study. The purpose of this study was to investigate sexual dysfunction in postpartum women and to determine the relationship between anxiety, marital relationship, and sexual dysfunction in postpartum women. The purposive sample included 85 postpartum women who brought their newborns to receive care at a well-baby clinic at Surin Hospital, Buriram Hospital and Prasat Hospital in Surin province since September 2017 to January 2018. The research instruments consisted of the Demographic Data Record form, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), the State Anxiety Inventory, and the Marital Relationship Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient.

Results: Sixty percent of postpartum women had sexual dysfunction at a minimal (76.5%), moderate (17.6%), and severe (5.9%) level. Anxiety had a statistically significant moderate positive correlation with sexual dysfunction (r=.31, p < .05), but there was no correlation between marital relationship and sexual dysfunction.

Recommendations: The results of this study can be used as baseline data for planning effective nursing care to prevent sexual dysfunction in postpartum women.
