Abstract

                  Translators have been known to make sure that their work is coherent by focusing on their choices of cohesive devices. One important cohesive devices is the conjunction and that semantically binds clauses together. This research article explores the translation of the conjunction and in the Thai translation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods, Baan Lek Nai Pa Yai by Sukhontharot by adopting the model of contrastive analysis (Hoey and Houghton, 2001). The results indicate that the strategies employed by Sukhontharot support the proposal that translated texts tend to have explicit features which is one of the characteristics of translation universals.
