Abstract

This article aims at studying linguistic techniques used to give advice about love problems of the third gender. Data from conversations in the radio program during the month of February 2011 were analyzed; nine linguistic strategies were found: 1) providing advice unreservedly, 2) not forcing the listener, 3) intimacy with the listener, 4) scenario creation, 5) referring to themselves or examples of their experience, 6) referring to a third person or a source of information, 7) encouraging listeners, 8) using metaphor expressions, and 9) using banter or jokes.
