Roles of Isan literature into Hheet-tsibsong Traditions

Abstract

      The objective of this article is to explore the roles of Isan literature in Heet-sipsong traditions through analyzing literature of the Northeastern part or Isan of Thailand in terms of the roles Isan literature plays in Heet-sipsong traditions or traditions taking place throughout the twelve months of the year.  The study found that the roles of literature are describing origins of the traditions; being a tool for training on social norms and regulations, and providing social outlets.  The roles are expressed in identities of rituals with authority over other series of knowledge in the traditions, and they are part of the traditions.  Therefore, Isan literature plays important roles in cultural value.
