The Concept and Practical Pattern for Being Sotapanna in Theravada Buddhism

บทคัดย่อ

The objectives of this documentary research are to 1) study the contexts of being Sotapanna, 2) study the concept and patterns of practicing for being Sotapanna, and 3) to synthesize the patterns of practicing for being Sotapanna in Theravada Buddhism. The study found that the Sotapanna means the one who possesses the eight fold noble path or those who are of the Faith and of the strong belief in the Buddha. There are many Sotapannas, namely:- Sotapattimagga up to Arahattaphala. The important characteristic of the Sotapannas must be of the following qualities:- 1) possesses the eight fold noble path, 2) to be of the strong belief in the Buddha, 3) to be of the faith in the Buddha, and 4) not acting against the Dhammas attaining. One who can attain the Sotapannas must be of the following characteristic:- 1) to be Veniya Puggala, 2) possessing the right view, 3) not acting against the Dhammas attaining, and 4) Listen carefully to the words of the Buddha in the others present.

          The concept and practical pattern of those who attain Sotapanna are:- 1) having good persons as friends, 2) learning the Buddha’s teaching, 3) determine things carefully, 4) practicing the Dhamma of Buddha’s teaching, 5) to be of the faith in the Buddha, 6) to be of the faith in the Dhammas, 7) to be of the faith in the Sanghas, 8) the complete precepts, 9) to be of the person who is of the giving the Dana without the stingy, and 10) not acting against the Dhammas attaining. The practical patterns for attaining Sotapanna are:- 1) be faithful, 2) keep precepts 3) learn to Dhamma, 4) prefer to give, and 5) practice meditation. Each pattern holds 4 steps of practices which are:- 1) having good teachers, 2) learning the Buddha’s teaching, 3) determine things carefully, and 4) practice the pattern.
