The Buddhist Selective Factors Effected to The Elderly’s Psychological Well-Being

Abstract

 


This research follow mixed method research design and its objectives are to study the effect of Buddhist selective factor on Psychological well-being in the elderly and how to promote it.


The researcher have been collected qualitative data to find psychological well-being and related factors in the elderly by applying focus group method to 45 elder persons of three elderly assembly and quantitative data by using questionnaire for 437 elderlies who live in Bangkok and five related provinces, and simple random sampling were applied to select sample.


 It founded that:-


          Female elderly have life satisfaction more than male elderly at significant level .05.


          Level of education of elderly effected on life satisfaction and emotional stability of the elderly at significant level .05.


          Provinces that they live has effected to psychological well-being of the elderly at significant level .05.


          The elderly who have donated every week have emotional stability more the other group at significant level .05.


          The elderly who study Buddha teaching every week have ego integrity and self-esteem more than other groups at significant level .05.


          The elderly who have practiced chanting every a few day have ego integrity and self-esteem more than other groups at significant level .05.


          Living with four path of accomplishment and four sublime states has effected to psychological well-being of the elderly at significant level .05.


          Moreover, this research indicated the self-preparation to be the elderly, participating social activities, and having faith and follow Buddha teaching is factors promoting psychological well-being of the elderly.
