Abstract

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the quality of life (QOL) of hypertension patients in Rassada hospital health services network, Trang Province. Population data were obtained from
2,023 patients who were diagnosed with hypertension by physicians and with ICD-10 codes I10, I11, I12,
I13 and I15 in Rassada hospital health services network, Trang Province. The sample size was determined
by the estimation of mean with known population sizes. In this study, 172 samples was used to define
the proportion of samples in each of eight medical health centers including Rassada hospital (41 patients),
PCU of Rassada hospital (23 patients), Queensirikit health center Khuanmao (22 patients), Nongbua health
promoting hospital (21 patients), Khlong Pang health promoting hospital (19 patients), Nongprue health
promoting hospital (20 patients), Khlong Muan health promoting hospital (15 patients) and Khaophrai health
promoting hospital (11 patients). The data were collected by interview using 36-item short form health survey (SF-36) (Thai version) between April 1 - 30, 2017. Descriptive statistics including percentage, average
and standard deviation (SD) were used for data analysis. The results showed that the psychological QOL
of hypertension patients (gif.latex?\bar{x}=57.25, S.D.=1.10), physical QOL (gif.latex?\bar{x}=37.17, S.D.=1.03). After physical QOL
classification in all dimensions, the dimension which was showing the lowest QOL of the patients was the
role limitation due to physical problems (gif.latex?\bar{x}=20.20, S.D.=2.28). Other dimensions affected on physical QOL
including general health perceptions (gif.latex?\bar{x}= 38.95, SD=1.86), physical functioning (gif.latex?\bar{x}=43.72, S.D.=1.06) and
bodily pain (gif.latex?\bar{x}=45.80, S.D.=1.41). Furthermore, psychological QOL of the patients was satisfactory. The
highest QOL of the patients was social functioning (gif.latex?\bar{x}=67.51, S.D.=1.33). Moreover, the general mental
health and vitality QOLs were (gif.latex?\bar{x}=63.46, S.D.=8.10 and =50.93, S.D.=1.04), respectively. However, the
role limitation due to emotion problems (gif.latex?\bar{x}=47.09, S.D.=3.53) was only one trouble of the patients having
health problems. The results of QOL of hypertension patients in Rassada hospital health services network,
Trang Province suggested that associated organization including medical staffs, family of patients and patients should collaborate on the health planning construction. To increase QOL of the patients both physical and psychological parts, the plan should be used to set the health service which is consistent with the problems of the hypertension patients.
