Predicting Factors for Twelve Core Values Practice among Senior High School Students, Chumphon Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive survey aimed to study the predicting factors for 12 core values practice among senior high school students (grades 10 - 12) in Chumphon Province. Using stratified random sampling, 346 senior high school students were included in the study. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires from March 3 - 31, 2017. Descriptive statistics was used for all variables, and Chi-squared test, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression were used to analyze associations. The results showed that most of the students (71.4%) had a high level of 12 core values practice. The predicting factors for 12 core values practice were perception of 12 core values policy, family relationships, ethics teaching in school and peer influence. The aforementioned factors were capable of predicting the 12 core values practice by 57.1%. Among these, the perception of 12 core values policy was the best predictor. To promote the 12 core values practice among students, relevant individuals/institutes should promote campaigns concerning perception toward the 12 core values policy. Infusing the 12 core values by teaching can be accomplished in ethics and other classes.
