Abstract

The purposes of this research are: 1) To study the role of local media in Nakhon Sawan province, 2) To study and analyze the political communication of local media in Nakhon Sawan province.
This research is qualitative research that integrates documentary research and field research. The data were collected by in-depth interview and observation. The data analysis with theory and presented by descriptive interpretation.
The research found that:
The local media in Nakhon Sawan province, especially in case study of a newspaper Song Kwae News (Sawan Breaking News) has 4 characteristics. First, the administrative structure is editorial department that informal. Editors and journalists have few but coordinated with other media organization. Second, the budget irregular affect to the survival of this newspaper, which was supported by few sponsor. Third, the working system is coordination with other media organization and networking to share information with each other media. Finally, the main aim is to presented local information creatively, recommendations to agencies and organizations for solve public issue, and to promote and support social services and charity events of local community.
Above characteristics lead to the role of political communication in Nakhon Sawan province in four trends: 1) Local media reflect on problem issue in local area and encourage the issue to get attention from both the general public and relevant state agencies. 2) Local media acts as the mediator of coordination with state agencies to solve the problem and develop the local. 3) Local media reflect the functional of various sectors in political society and give suggestion to stimulate more effective work. 4) Local media supported public issues creatively in order to be exemplary in society.
The results obtained from the role of political communication of local media in Nakhon Sawan province, especially in case study of a newspaper Song Kwae News (Sawan Breaking News) lead to problem solving and local development in two trends. First, the traffic problems at the crossing point of Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University entrance were taken in the process of acknowledging the problem by the relevant agencies. It is expected that the problem will be solved soon. Second, the people are aware of public problems, express opinions and encourage concrete solutions.
