Abstract

Abstract:
The purposes of this quasi-experimental research (one group pretest - post test design) were to study Thalassemia’s knowledge and practice and to compare
between the knowledge and practice in school age children with Thalassemia. The samples were 22 school age children with Thalassemia admitted in the
children’s ward of Maharat Nakhonratchasima Hospital. They were selected by using inclusion criteria assigned to one group pre/post - test. The instruments
were videotape and handbooks of Thalassemia’s knowledge using D-M-E-T-HO-D model. Data were collected by questionnaire personal data, Thalassemia’s
knowledge and practice. Content validity was examined and the reliability of the questionnaire 0.78 and 0.80 (KR-20), respectively. Data were analyzed by
frequencies, means, standard deviations and t-test. The results of this study indicated that the mean scores on school age children’s knowledge in Thalassemia disease and practice after discharge planning by using D-M-E-T-H-O-D model were significantly higher than before discharge planning (p<.001).
