Abstract

This study was a quasi-experimental research aiming to study the effectiveness of the
community participation program forAedes larvae control of household leaders. The samples
were composed of 66 household leaders in municipal areas, Banlam Subdistrict, Bangplama,
District, Suphanburi Province. These household leaders have participated in learning
development activities in accordance with the program, including enhancing knowledge
about hemorrhagic fever and Aedes larvae control, developing perceived susceptibility
and sevenrity of hemorrhagic fever, perceived self-efficacy in Aedes larvae control and
Aedes larvae control behavior. The data were collected by scheduled interviews and survey
forms, before and after the experiment. The data were analyzed by computing percentage,
arithmetic mean and standard deviation, and statistical analysis was done using Paired
Samples, t-test, and Z-test.
The results showed that after the experiment, the experimental group had significantly
higher mean scores of knowledge about hemorrhagic fever and Aedes larvae control,
perceived susceptibility of hemorrhagic fever, perceived severity of hemorrhagic fever,
and perceived self-efficacy than before the program. The results revealed that the community
participation program forAedes larvae control was effective in promoting household leaders
to change their Aedes larvae control behaviors. The recommendations were that this type
of community participation program should be applied for Aedes larvae control in other
similar areas and emphasis should be placed on community participation in implementation
of the program activities. Pulbic health unit in the Subdistrict Administration Organization or
the Subdistrict Municipality should develop a system that supports the community to control
Aedes larvae effectively.
