Abstract: This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of preparation program on self-care behaviors for school–age children with thalassemia patients, aged 6 to12 years old admitted to hospital. The sample size was consisted of twenty people. The sample group was divided equally into the experimental and control groups. The research instruments were interview about caring behavior based on Orem’s self-care theory. The control group received routine care and the experimental group received the preparation program, which consists of health manuals, cartoon animation and health games. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t- test. Results show that: 1) After experiment 3 days and 1 month, the mean score of self- care behaviors in the experimental group was statistically significant higher than those in the control group (p<0.05). 2) After experiment 3 days and 1 month, the mean score of self- care behaviors in the experimental group was statistically significance higher than before experiment (p<0.05).
