Malnutrition is a major problem for patients worldwide. This condition results in a delayed recovery period during a long hospital stay and an increase in healthcare costs. There is also an increased risk of disability and even death. Thus, the nursing role in promoting nutrition of critically ill patients is imperative. The importance of a health assessment and further nutritional support can improve recovery from illness and quality of life in critically ill patients.
