Abstract

 

Accidental extubation is an unprecedented happening, which may lead to severe complications in patients. Additionally this mayhave an impact on the quality of life for both patients, their family and the hospital itself. Risk factors that cause accidental extubation primarily consist of 3 factors 1) the patient factor 2) the nurses factor 3) the healthcare factor. Accidental extubation can be prevented by decreasing the following risk factors. 1) assessment of  the risk factors 2) planning and examining  the causes and the factors of accidental extubation 3) securing the endotracheal tube efficiently.
