Effects of Perceived Self-Efficacy Promoting Program on Dietary Consumption and Exercise Behaviors among Hypertensive Patients

Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental researchwas to examine the effects of perceived self-efficacypromoting program on dietary consumptionand exercise behaviors among hypertensive patients.The study samples were sixty patients with hypertensionreceiving care at hypertension clinic of a communityhospital in Nakornratchasima province. The firstthirty patients were assigned to a control groupand another thirty patients were in an experimentalgroup.  Both groups were matched in terms ofgender, marital status, and duration of illness.The control group received conventional nursingcare while the experimental group participated inthe perceived self-efficacy promoting program.The collecting data instruments were dietary consumptionand exercise behaviors questionnaire. Data wereanalyzed using mean, percentage, standard deviation,paired sample t-test, and independent t-test. The results showed that the mean scoresof dietary consumption and exercise behaviorsof hypertensive patients in the experimental groupwere significantly higher than those of the control group(p < 0.05).  Moreover, the mean scores of dietaryconsumption and exercise behaviors of hypertensivepatients after participating in the programwere significantly higher than the mean scoresbefore participating in the program (p < 0.05).
