Effects of clinical nursing practice guideline training for preventing of ventilator associated pneumonia in pediatric patients

Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to examine the effects of Clinical Nursing Practice Guideline training for preventing of ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP) in pediatric patients. The study samples consisted of 8 registered nurses  and 30 pediatric patients aged 1 month to 5 years.  The result of this study revealed that nurse’s knowledge increased  from 41.88 % to 98.75% (p<.001), nurse’s practice increased from 87.50  % to 95.89 % (p<.001), Nurses' satisfaction at 4 score. The incidence of VAP was reduced from 31.25 to 0 per 1,000 ventilator-day. This study indicates that  training by using adult learning theories  can successfully improve correct  knowledge and practice on the preventing of VAP. And reduce the incidence

rate of VAP in pediatric patients.
