Abstract:
The purpose of this research and development study was to develop nursing practice guidelines for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) prevention in neonates and implement the effective guidelines to neonates. This study consists of 4 phases, 1) evidence-triggered phase, 2) evidence-supported phase, 3) evidence-observed phase, 4) evidence-based phase. The sample were 44 registered nurses and 95 neonates who underwent mechanical ventilator. The results of this study showed that the average of compliance to nursing practice guideline was higher than before implementation. The average level of opinions to nursing practice guideline were at a high level. The incidence of VAP rate was reduced in evaluation period.
