Development of Competency Indicators for Nurses in Songklanagarind Hospital

Abstract

The study aims to develop the indicators and test competency nursing profession at Prince of Songkla University. The study was conducted with 550 nurses with at least 1 year experience. The questionnaire was approved for content validity from 7 experts. The reliability value of the questionnaire yielded at .97. The data were analyzed by using percentage mean and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).


The results showed that the indicators of nursing professions consist of major 7 factors with 44 indicators including leadership management and quality control (b = .71), communication. The factor with the highest weight was slandering (b = 0.71) including 9 and 4 indicators respectively, followed by research (b = 0.66) consisting of 5 indicators; Professional features (b = 0.59) consisting of 10 indicators; nursing (b = 0.53) consisting of 4 indicators; Ethics (b = 0.48) consisting of 7 indicators and Technology and Social (b = 0.42) consisting of 5 indicators. The linear structural model the performance of nursing profession was in statistically significant congruence with empirical data. = 1009.37, Chi-Square = 1009.37, df = 786, p = 0.00, GFI = .92, AGFI = .90 and RMSEA = .024


Nurse administrator can apply the results in developing the performance evaluation tool and for creating individual development plan.
