Relationships of the Readiness in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice with Perceived Efficacy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice of Registered Nurses in the Health Promoting Hospital, Nakhon Phanom Province

Abstract

The purposes of this descriptive research were to study the readiness in psychiatric and mental health The purposes of this descriptive research were to study the readiness in psychiatric and mental healthnursing practice and to examine the relationships of the readiness in psychiatric and mental health nursingpractice with the perceived efficacy in psychiatric and mental health nursing practice in Nakorn Phanom Province. Seventy four participants were selected by simple random sampling. The instruments included1) demographic data, 2) psychiatric and mental health nursing practice readiness assessment, and 3) perceivedefficacy in psychiatric and mental health nursing practice assessment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation statistics.


The results showed that the readiness in psychiatric and mental health nursing practice was at a moderate level. The readiness of the ability and the willingness were at a moderate leveland a high level respectively. The readiness in psychiatric and mental health nursing practice was positivelycorrelated with the perceived psychiatric and mental health nursing practice with statistical significance(r=.71, p< .001).


The results of the study indicated the need for preparing psychiatric and mental health nursingpractice for registered nurses working in the Health Promoting Hospital in order to effectively enhancepsychiatric and mental health care following health care standard’s.
