Urinary Incontinence Management and Perception of Quality of Life of Female Clients at the Gynecological Clinic

Abstract

               The descriptive research aimed to study urinary incontinence management and quality of life of female clients at a gynecological clinic, Songklanagarind Hospital. A total of 90 participants was selected by purposive sampling. The framework of the urinary incontinence used Wyman and the quality of life used WHO. The questionnaire used for collecting data consisting of four parts: 1) demographic data, 2) severity of symptoms in urinary incontinence, 3) urinary incontinence management and 4) quality of life. Data were analysis using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

                The results showed that the majority of urinary incontinence management included to handle cleaning reproductive organs by cleaning and wiping at 96.67 percentage. 93.30 percentage of female clients used the bathroom before leaving the house or before commute, 90.00 percentage female clients try to avoid/abstain from smoking, and 86.67 percentage of female clients make appointment with physician when they got some problems with urinary incontinence. The mean score of total quality of life among female clients with urinary incontinence was moderate level (M = 87.56, SD = 9.76), including physical health (M = 22.73, SD = 2.87), psychological (M = 19.99, SD = 3.09), social relationships (M = 9.92, SD = 1.76), and environment (M = 28.43, SD = 4.18).

                Thus, the results revealed that health care personal could applied information of urinary incontinence management and improved quality of life to care for female clients at the gynecological clinic.
