Staff Nurses, Engagement in Work and Being a Magnet Nursing Department as Perceived by Staff Nurses at Tertiary Hospitals, Southern Thailand

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study staff nurses, engagement in work and being a magnet of nursing department, and to explore relationship between staff nurses, engagement in work and being a magnet of nursing department as perceived by staff nurses at tertiary hospitals in southern Thailand. The sample were 338 staff nurses at tertiary hospitals. The instruments were three questionnaires :1) demographic data;
2) the staff nurses, engagement in work; and 3) being a magnet of nursing department. Three experts validated questionnaire number 2 and 3 with good CVIs 0.81 and 0.82 respectively. The reliabilities tested using Cronbach, s alpha Coefficient, were 0.97 and 0.98 respectively. We analyzed data by using frequency, percentage, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient. We found overall mean score of the staff nurses, engagement in work as perceived by staff nurses was at a high level (M = 3.76, SD = 0.48) and being a magnet of the nursing department as perceived by staff nurses was at a high level (M = 3.67, SD = 0.53). We also found positive relationship between staff nurses, engagement in work and being a magnet of the nursing department as perceived by staff nurses (r = 0.71, p < 0.01). The results could be a beneficent for nurse administrators to develop a guideline in the promotion of staff nurses,engagement in work and being a magnet of the nursing department
