Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the principal
components of using of statistical methods for research, 2) to formulate
guidelines on how to use statistical methods in research and 3) to study
the using of statistical methods in dissertations for Ph.D. students at the
higher education institutes across the northeast. The research process
comprised three stages. Stage 1 was a study of the principal components
of using of statistical methods for research from documents, texts and
journals. Stage 2 was a formulation of guidelines on how to use statistical
methods in research. Stage 3 was a studying of the using of statistical
methods in dissertations for Ph.D. students at the higher education institutes
across the northeast from 95 of 475 dissertations. The results revealed
that: 1) The principal components of using of statistical methods in research
had five components, 2) There were three guidelines on how to implement
statistical methods in research, and 3) The using of statistical methods in
dissertations of Ph.D. students was 52.63 percent of only descriptive
statistics , 47.37 percent of both descriptive and inferential statistics and
82.22 percent of using parametric statistical tests were neglected about
exploring some assumptions.
