Review of Current Knowledge on Communication of the Unrest in Southern Border Provinces within a Decade

Abstract

The research is based on document analysis of theses and research
reports in communication arts, journalism, mass communication, and
relevant fields with the research problems formulated on the unrest in
southern border provinces published between 2004-2013 or within a decade.
The results reveal that, a total of 43 theses and research reports are
undertaken from 2004 to 2013, accounting for 23 and 20 respectively.
Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat University conduct the most
number of the former while Prince of Songkla University Pattani Campus
carries out most of latter studies. As a whole, the studies focus on interpreting
and analyzing the unrest situation in southern border provinces appeared
in newspaper with positivism theory, and the most widely used approach
is agenda setting. It is also found that the turning point of the incident
brings about the art of communication caused by a construction of reality
regarding the unrest with two main issues consisting of violence and
conflict, and peace.
