Abstract

King Taksin the Great is a monarch who for a long time did not receive the tribute he deserved for his reign in the early Rattanakosin period. For many years, out of spite, the Siamese elite minimized his roles and influence on Siamese history. However, the era of western imperialism influenced Siam by encouraging the Siamese to systematically study history, causing people to question the history of the Thonburi period, as it is related to the Rattanakosin period. Over time, the viewpoint of the elite changed in favour of King Taksin the Great. This can be seen in the vision of the composition of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, whose aim was to cultivate political legitimacy for the first monarch of the Rattanakosin period.
