Cultural Identity of Nang Talung Product for Use in Graphic Design of Packaging

Abstract

This research aims to conduct a study on the identity of the Nang Talung product and to
analyze data to be used to create a graphics package. This research is a qualitative research along with
the development of the model. The study of the document, the interview and the information provided
by this research has been elaborated by 5 local design experts in the South with the aim of analyzing
and synthesizing data to serve as a framework for conceptual design and experimental development of
a graphic packaging model. Then, the graphic design will be evaluated by experts. The results of the
research showed that Nang Talung product is a famous art and craft along with the performance of
shadows. The production process has 2 techniques: 1) Hammering. 2) Carving. Five graphic designs are
used to assess the performance of the graphics and its economic value. The fourth design approach got
the highest average score of 4.60. This study helps to understand the southern local wisdom hidden in
the product and to know the specifics that can be applied in various designs.
