Abstract

            The contex of Pai and Pangmapha district Mae Hong Son province becoming
tourist destinations, Lisu women have increasingly become vendors and workers
rn the tourist market. These profession require business techniques and language
skills(English), are important factors in establishing social positions away from
that of wifehood a property, allowing them to become heads of households.
             Tourism has lead the way to a chance in the status of rrsu woman anotheir roles in society, while at the same time drawn male tourists in search of sexinto Thailand. This added to Thai culture and Thai traditions regarding femalesand their obligations to family and their being regarded as part of a familiesproperty. Ali of these factors have made many Lisu women in these tourist areaschoose to have relationships with foreign tourists. parfly to improve their economiccondition and status, and partly to improve social status in Thai society; Thaisociety has elements of racism regarding minority ethnic groups. Having arelationship with a foreigner, who are regarded a having a higher economjc andsocial status than Thais, seem raise/change them in higher status.
