The objectives of this research were (1) to study competencies of entrepreneur affecting characteristics of organic agriculture business entrepreneur; (2) to study competencies and characteristics of entrepreneur affecting the success of organic agriculture business; and (3) to create a model of competencies and characteristics of entrepreneur affecting the success of organic agriculture business. The research sample consisted of 400 organic agriculture entrepreneurs obtained by convenient sampling from the population of 7458 organic agriculture entrepreneurs. Data were statistically analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and multiple correlation coefficients. The researcher also conducted in-depth interviews of 11 organic agriculture entrepreneurs who had been in the business for 10 years. Interview data were analyzed with content analysis. The model was created based on results of verification by 11 experts.
The research results revealed that (1) the competencies of entrepreneur affecting characteristics of organic agriculture business entrepreneur included management competency, strategic competency, relationship competency, and concept competency respectively; (2) the competencies of entrepreneur affecting the success of organic agriculture business comprised management competency, strategic competency, relationship competency, concept competency, and commitment competency, respectively; while characteristics of entrepreneur affecting the success of organic agriculture business comprised innovativeness characteristic, competitive ability characteristic, risk-taking characteristic, proactive working characteristic, and autonomy characteristic, respectively; and (3) the created model of competencies and characteristics of entrepreneur affecting the success of organic agriculture business was composed of two components and nine dimensions; the component of competencies of entrepreneur had four dimension, and the component of characteristics of entrepreneur had five dimensions.
