Abstract

This qualitative research aims to study on participation of family in slowing the progression of kidney disease of patients with chronic kidney disease at the community. The key informants were 32 patients with chronic kidney disease and their family members who provided care to them. Data were collected from the early December 2016 to the end of June 2017 through in-depth interview based on interview questions. Data were gradually collected until they were stable.
The results revealed that participation of family in slowing the progression of kidney disease was consisted of providing care/suggestions/information/warning/ and participating in following those suggestions, information, and warning as well as providing convenience in the following dimensions: 1) weight control 2) exercise 3) blood pressure control for patients with diabetes 4) blood sugar control for patients with hypertension 5) care giving to trivial illness 6) drug administration 7) cooking habit 8) surveillance for monitoring disease pattern 9) chronic kidney disease management 10) emotion /stress management. Patients tended to have appropriate self-care. There were some dimensions that could not be cooperated by patients due to some health limitations, roles, duties, and way of life of patients. Since different context of each family causing different problem of each patient, officers should provide specific car to each case besides participation of family.
