THE EFFECT OF NURSING INTERVENTION INTEGRATED WITH AGE-FRIENDLY PRINCIPLE ON ANXIETY OF THE OLDER PATIENTS IN EMERGENCY ROOM

Abstract

This quasi-experiment research aimed to study the effect of nursing intervention integrated with age-friendly principle on anxiety of the older patients in emergency room. The research subjects consisted of 40 older persons who were randomly assigned to control group and experimental group by matched pair technique for 20 older persons in each group. Research instruments were the guideline for age-friendly environmental modification in emergency room, the handbook of nursing intervention integrated age-friendly care in emergency room. Research data were obtained by the Faces Anxiety Scale, and the questionnaire of nursing intervention in care for older patients in emergency room. The instruments tested for content validity by 5 experts, and CVI were 1.00, while the reliability used Cronbach’s alpha coefficient is .83. Data analysis by mean, standard deviation, and t-test.


The research finding were as follows: 1) After receiving nursing intervention integrated age-friendly principle the mean anxiety score among the older persons treated in emergency room in the experimental group was significantly lower the score before undergoing the program (p<.05)  and 2) After receiving nursing intervention integrated age-friendly principle the mean anxiety score among the older persons treated in emergency room in the experimental group was significantly lower than those who received routine nursing (p<.05)
