Abstract

The purposes of this research and development were: 1) to develop a prevention model for neonatal omphalitis at Phraseang hospital in SuratThani province and 2) to evaluate the satisfaction of nurses and newborns’ mothers with the model. The research process was divided into 3 phases. 1) A situation analysis the prevention for neonatal omphalitis. 2) The prevention model for neonatal omphalitis was developed. 3) The prevention model for neonatal omphalitis was implemented and evaluated. The sample included two groups: Twenty-six nurses worked at the In-patient ward and delivery room and thirty neonate’s mothers who delivered at Phraseang hospital in SuratThani province during January-February 2014. The research instrument were satisfaction of nurses and mothers questionaires. The content validity was verified by 5 experts. The cronbach alpha coefficients of these questionnaires were .80 and .80 respectively. Quantitative data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation; whereas, qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis.

The research results found as follows: 1) The prevention model for neonatal omphalitis consisted of guidelines for surveillance of infection control and guidelines for prevention of the neonatal omphalitis. 2) Both nurses and newborns’ mothers  were satisfied with the prevention model of neonatal omphalitis at the high level.
