Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women is a significant problem in maternal and child health nursing, which has affected on mother and fetus, in term of abortion, preterm labor, low birth weight in newborn and infection. Therefore, the assessment of iron deficiency anemia at the beginning of pregnancy is very necessary for pregnant women, by history taking, physical examination, and hematocrit level. Management is significant for nurses role to prevent adverse maternal and pregnancy outcomes, by giving various activities such as to give knowledge, dietary advice, oral iron supplements, family’s participation, exchange experience, a recording, positive reinforcement, telephone tracking, and home visit, these effective management could help pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia had appropriated self-care behaviors to control hematocrit into normal level, to lead  to good health and reduce complication and any harm to maternal and fetus.
