The research purposes were 1) to analysis factors of social intelligence of elderly in southern Thai province, 2) to study of social intelligence of elderly in southern Thai province, and 3) develop a model and study the efficiency of integrated group counseling to enhance social intelligence of elderly in southern Thai province. The sample group of elderly was from 60-69 years of age. It was divided into 3 steps. The first step was an analysis of the factors of the social intelligence of the 300 subjects who were obtained from multistage random sampling. The instrument was questionnaire measuring the social intelligence. The data were analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis. The second step was a study of the social intelligence of the elderly of the 450 subjects who were obtained from multistage random sampling. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The third step was the development and study of the efficacy of the group counseling model to enhance the social intelligence of elderly of the 16 subjects who had the mean score of the social intelligence of less than the 25th percentile and they were volunteers to have the experiment. They were divided by simple random into an experimental group and a control group, 8 in each group. The data were analyzed by Wilcoxon matched pairs signed-ranks test, and Mann-Whitney U test.
The results were as follows: 1) The social intelligence of the elderly in southern Thai province consisted of three factors: social awareness, social information processing and social skill. 2) The study showed that the overall social intelligence of the elderly in southern Thai province was in high level. The social skill was the highest, following by social information processing, and social awareness, respectively. 3) The integrated group counseling model for enhancement the social intelligence included the technique from client center group counseling, Gestalt group counseling, transactional analysis, rational emotive behavior therapy group counseling, solution focus group counseling, and Adler group counseling. There were three stages of counseling: the beginning stage, the working stage and the terminal stage. The efficiency of the model was found that the social intelligence in the experimental group was increased after using the integrated group counseling model.
