ETHICAL SOCIAL MEDIA USE: LEARNING THROUGH VIRTUAL FAMILIES

Abstract

Growing Popularity of Social Media raises series of impacts on daily lives and relationships of individuals. Now it became an issue that all social aspects concern, in term of “Social Literacy”, as prevention and solution for negative impacts of social media. Boromarajonani Changwat Nonthaburi, Nursing College uses virtual family as a mechanism to develop humanized health care identity of its nursing students. The responsibility of an advisor of each virtual family is using analytical thinking, problem solving and dialogue conversation to help all members solve problems of students’ life.  Social media literacy and ethical use of online media were mutual concerned of two families so their advisors designed some activities using 3 baskets of system thinking (Jutarosaga & Jutarosaga, 2016). The advisors facilitated learning environment by using current social media situations, dialogues and questions to encourage system thinking and ethical solutions for online media issues. Lesson learned from the activities for nursing students and advisors were as follows: 1) Work as a team 2) Dialogue and humanized health care 3) System thinking and 4) Self-regulations and self-control.
