THE DEVELOPMENT OF COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL GROUP COUNSELLING MODEL FOR ENHANCING PROACTIVE COPING OF UNINTENDED PREGNANT TEENAGER

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop the cognitive-behavioral group counseling model for enhancing proactive coping of unintended pregnant teenager. The subjects of proactive coping study consisted of 136 unintended pregnant teenagers of 5 associations: Bann phra khun, Sahathai, Friends of Women, The Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Soamsawali (APSW)and Path foundation. The sample of the study of the proactive coping enhancement included 24 unintended pregnant teenagers. They were randomly assigned into an experimental group and a control group. Each group consisted of 12 unintended pregnant teenagers. The research was mixed methods research. The research results were as follows: 1) The total mean score and each dimension score of proactive coping were high.2) The cognitive-behavioral group counseling model for enhancing proactive coping of unintended pregnant teenagers was developed by applying concepts and techniques of the cognitive-behavioral group counseling theory, included 4 stages: the initial stage, the working stage, the final stage, and the evaluation stage. 3) The developed cognitive behavioral group counseling model was effective in significantly enhancing the proactive coping of the unintended pregnant teenagers attended the model at .01 level. 4) The proactive coping of unintended pregnant teenagers of the experimental group after participating in the cognitive-behavioral group counseling model and after the follow up were significantly higher than before participating in the cognitive-behavioral group counseling model at .01 level. 5) The proactive coping of unintended pregnant teenagers of the experimental group after the experiment and after the follow up were higher than that of the control group at .01 level. 6)The unintended pregnant teenagers of the experiment group was satisfied with the group counseling model. They gained more knowledge and experiences in enhancing proactive coping. They had a chance to express and share their feelings and ideas during the discussion. Also, they could be able in applying proactive coping.
