Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive research aimed to study 1) the level of the perception of Health Belief model and the prevention behavior with stroke and 2) The correlation the level of the perception of Health Belief model and the prevention behavior with stroke was at a high.A simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 110 patient who were at risk of stroke including diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease. The research instruments composed of the demographic questionnaire, stroke knowledge questionnaire, health belief perception questionnaire, and stroke prevention behavior questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were .77, .71, .73, .83, and .76 respectively. Descriptive analysis and chi-square were used for analysis data.

The results indicated the average stroke knowledge score of patients at risk of stroke was at a high level. (gif.latex?\bar{x}=75.22, S.D.=13.89), the perception of Health Belief model was at moderate level (gif.latex?\bar{x}=65.09, S.D.=8.08) and the prevention behavior with stroke was at a high level (gif.latex?\bar{x}=81.93, S.D.=8.45). Correlation analysis revealed that 1) marital status, income, BMI and stroke experienced were positive significantly related of health belief perception and prevention behavior (χ2=44.30, 19.38, 83.78, and 120.89, p<.05) 2) health belief perception was positive significantly related to stroke prevention behavior (χ2= 89.98 and 148.36, p<.05)
