Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to compare complications preventing behaviors among older persons with cholangiocarcinoma undertaking percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage between the experimental group and control group. The samples were 44 older persons with cholangiocarcinoma undertaking percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage, aged 60 years and above with general surgery, OPD clinic at King’s Chulalongkorn Memmorial Hospital. They were randomly classified into 2 groups: 22 each in experimental group and control group. The control group was undertaken conventional nursing care while the experimental group received the health belief modification program for 5 weeks. The instruments of this study were the health belief modification program and the complications preventing behaviors scale for older persons with cholangiocarcinoma undertaking percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage measure. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The research findings were as follows: 1) The mean score of complications preventing behaviors among older persons with cholangiocarcinoma undertaking percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage after received the health belief modification program was significantly higher than before undertaking the program. (p<.05) and 2) The mean score of complications preventing behaviors among older persons with cholangiocarcinoma undertaking percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage after received the health belief modification program cases in the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group at p<05.
