ชีววิทยาและความหลากชนิดของชันโรง (Apidae: Meliponinae) ในประเทศไทย

ชันโรงมีการกระจายตัวอยู่ทั่วโลก ถูกจำแนกชนิดแล้วประมาณ 400 ชนิดซึ่งพบมากในเขตร้อนและเขตอบอุ่น ในประเทศไทยมีรายงานการสำรวจความหลากชนิดของชันโรงพบจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 32 ชนิด และมีการกระจายตัวอยู่ในทุกพื้นที่ของประเทศ โดยชันโรงส่วนใหญ่จะสร้างรังในโพรงต้นไม้ จากการที่แมลงกลุ่มนี้ต้องการอาหารในรูปของน้ำหนาวและ/หรือละอองเรณู จึงทำให้ชันโรงจัดเป็นแมลงผสมเกสรที่มีความสำ คัญกลุ่มหนึ่งทั้งให้แก่พืชป่าและพืชเศรษฐกิจ

Abstract

Stingless bees are found throughout the world. They are classified about 400 described species. Thelarge numbers have been reported in tropical areas and some subtropical regions. In Thailand, 32 species arecurrently described. Most stingless bee species nest in natural cavities within trees. All species mainly feed onnectar and/or pollen. They play an important role in pollination of wild plants and economic crops.
