Abstract

This research aims to study the behavior of poor water pressure, excess poor water pressure, effective stress and maximum displacement that occurs within the dam after receiving lateral forces from earthquakes in various sizes. The model will be created and then analyzed by using finite element method in a 2D nonlinear plane strain condition by incremental model. By using the program Plaxis to analyze the behavior of the earth dam that has effected from various sizes of earthquakes (0.025 -0.13 g) it was found that the water pressure would be the most valuable at the part of random zone and, reduced when entering to the core zone. The excess water pressure at the core zone is greater than the random zone at the same depth. From the analysis, it reveals that the impact on the behavior of pore water pressure, effective stress and displacement of the dam, after the dam received the lateral forces from the earthquake there was not very much effect.
