Abstract
มะเร็งเป็นโรคที่น่าสะพรึงกลัว ผู้ป่วยที่ได้รับคำบอกเล่าว่าเป็นมะเร็งนั้นน้อยคนนักที่จะรับทราบความจริงได้ ส่วนใหญ่จะรู้สึกเหมือนตัดสินประหารชีวิต อย่างไรก็ตาม การรักษาโรคมะเร็งนั้นได้มีการพัฒนามาตลอดตั้งแต่มียารักษาน้อยมากจนถึงยาเคมีบำบัดที่มีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น ร่วมกับการใช้รังสีรักษา การผ่าตัด ตลอดจนการเปลี่ยนถ่ายไขกระดูก ทำให้ผู้ป่วยมีชีวิตยืนยาวยิ่งขึ้น โดยใช้ชีวิตอย่างมีความสุขและมีคุณภาพ สามารถทำงานเลี้ยงดูครอบครัวใช้ชีวิตเป็นประโยชน์ต่อสังคมได้ในระยะหนึ่ง ในบางรายก็สามารถหายขาดจากโรคนี้ได้ อย่างไรก็ตามผู้ป่วยส่วนใหญ่มักจะกลับเป็นใหม่ในระยะ 1-5 ปี ตามลักษณะของโรคและการรักษา การกลับมาเป็นใหม่ของโรคนี้เป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้โศกเศร้าแก่ผู้ป่วย ครอบครัว และแพทย์ผู้รักษา
