บทคัดย่อ

Diabetes mellitus is the important chronic disease in public health problem that has tendency to increase in accumulation rate during the past two decades. Except the regular treatment, the patients should have basic knowledges about their diseases and properly appropriate health management for their good diabetic control.

This experimental study was purposed to evaluate the effects of educational program on controlling blood sugar level in ono-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients that consisted of knowledges managements and blood sugar level which compared among pre-and post-encountered this program.

There were 115 NIDDM patients attending at Out Patient Medical division of Samutsakhon hospital during April to December, 2007. The study groups were selected by patients properties and color labeled blood sugar level. The subjects answered the questionnaires and their behavioral test in pre-and-post attending the activities. The data were analyzed in frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and were tested for statistical significance by paired t-test.

After attending the knowledge program, the study group had knowledges, appropriate self managements and decreased in blood sugar level more than before attending this program with statistical significance (p < .001)

This study revealed that appropriate knowledges and correct managements had effect to control patient’s blood sugar level. The study suggested that we should have the activity for individual patients and individual groups for counseling, self assistance in their groups or setting the activity outside the hospital in order to find out the problems that will improve the further service and management to help diabetic patients in the future.
