Rangsit Music Journal (RMJ) is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to the dissemination of original research papers, creative works, academic articles, and reviews in the fields of music composition, music performance, musicology, music education, music technology, and other related music subjects.

Our journal strives to advance the understanding and practice of music by providing a platform for researchers, musicians, composers, and academics to publish their findings and share their knowledge with the broader music community.

Scope

Rangsit Music Journal warmly welcomes scholarly articles in both Thai and English that span a wide spectrum of music dimensions. Our scope encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • Music Composition: This category encompasses various forms of composition, such as orchestral music, chamber music, jazz and commercial music composition, electro-acoustic music, sound art, film and multimedia scoring, interactive media scoring, and more. Researchers and composers are encouraged to explore the innovative frontiers of music creation.
  • Music Performance: The realm of music performance is diverse and ever-evolving. RMJ accepts submissions related to vocal performance, instrumental performance, jazz studies, contemporary commercial music, orchestral studies, chamber music, musical theatre, opera, and other aspects of performance practice.
  • Musicology: Musicology involves the study of music history, music theory, music analysis, ethnomusicology, and related disciplines. Scholars can contribute to the journal by presenting their research on various aspects of musicology, deepening our understanding of musical traditions, styles, and cultural contexts.
  • Music Education and Pedagogy: This category focuses on research related to music education, teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and pedagogical approaches in both formal and informal settings. RMJ aims to showcase innovative practices and initiatives that enhance music education.
  • Music Technology: With the continuous advancements in technology, this category explores the intersection of music and technology. Topics may include music production and engineering, recording technology, electronic production and design, sound synthesis, and the impact of technology on the creation, performance, and dissemination of music.
  • Other Related Music Subjects: RMJ recognizes the interdisciplinary nature of music and welcomes submissions on various related subjects, such as music business and management, music therapy, concert production, and any other topics that contribute to the wider understanding of music and its various applications.

Types of Published Articles

  • Research Articles: These articles present original research findings in the field of music. They follow a structured format and employ rigorous methodologies to investigate a specific research question or hypothesis.   • Creative Works Articles: This category features articles that focus on the creative aspects of music, showcasing innovative compositions, performances, or artistic projects. Creative works articles may include descriptions of the creative process, theoretical frameworks, and reflections on the artistic intentions and outcomes.
  • Academic Articles: Academic articles provide critical analyses, theoretical discussions, and conceptual frameworks related to various aspects of music. They contribute to the scholarly discourse by presenting new insights, interpretations, or perspectives on specific topics within the field of music.
  • Review Articles: Review articles offer comprehensive and evaluative summaries of existing literature, performances, recordings, or other relevant materials. Publication Frequency: biannually, with two issues released every year.

Language
RMJ requires that articles be written in Thai or English languages.  Thai articles must present an abstract in both Thai and English. English articles need only provide an English abstract. Clear and concise language and adherence to proper grammar and spelling are encouraged.

Article Processing Fee: Authors are notified of the publication fee of either 4,000 THB or 120 USD per manuscript. Kindly ensure that your manuscript submission is accompanied by proof of payment via bank transfer.

Open Access Policy
Rangsit Music Journal (RMJ) aims to disseminate original research papers, creative works, academic articles, and reviews in the fields of music composition, music performance, musicology, music education, music technology, and other related music subjects. RMJ is an open-access journal in which all published articles are freely available online worldwide.

Journal History

             The journal was founded by Den Youprasert, Wiboon Trakulhun, and the faculty from Rangsit University Conservatory of Music to contribute to developing the academic music community in Thailand to international standards. The initial issue of Rangsit Music Journal was published in 2006, entering the 16th year as a TCI database journal group member with unwavering determination.
