Abstract

Nonlinear current-voltage characteristic and dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) ceramics prepared from CaCu3Ti4O12 nanopowder obtained by the aloe vera solution method are investigated. The XRD results of CCTO nanopowder and CCTO ceramics indicated a perovskite structure with the observed impurity phases of CaTiO3 and CuO in all samples. The maximum dielectric constant(\inline \dpi{80} \varepsilon') measured at 30 ºC and 1 kHz was found to be 1.10× 104 with the minimum loss tangent (tan\inline \dpi{80} \delta) of 0.07 for a CCTO ceramic sintered at 1050 ºC. Non-ohmic properties with a high breakdown field (Eb) of 2,215 V.cm-1 and a large nonlinear coefficient (\inline \dpi{80} \alpha) of 19.31 were observed in a CCTO ceramic sample sintered at 1020 ºC. The dielectric, tan \inline \dpi{80} \delta, and non-ohmic properties were found to be associated with the microstructure of the CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics.
