Abstract

Information Technology and Communication (ICT) create more channels for people to expose to news information at any convenient time. In fact, ICT has capability to send out news to enormous people without stepping into any mass media processes. According to this phenomenon, news reporting nowadays does not depends on traditional media anymore. Actually, this amendment has brought an aggressive and intensive competition in media industry. Then, the mission of media in this era is to maintain numbers of receiver and audience. In order to be survived in media industry’s competition, one of the interesting solutions is “Data Journalism”.

“Data Journalism” is defined as a process of news reporting that mainly focuses on information database. The process starts from information search and data collection for analysis. Next, journalist can re-organize, categorize and revise information, to make sure that receivers easily understand the information reported by journalist. In fact, Information Technology and Communication systems are used for Data Journalism processing to increase the effectiveness of news reporting. Further benefit is information can be analyzed in sights with more detailed, which probably have not been unveiled before. However, Thai media still applies Data Journalism to present the revised information in form of info graphic or animation only to get receivers’ attention and interest. These results may be affected from three limitations, which are internal limitations of news publication, cultural media exposure of Thais and data disclosure regulation of public sectors or integrity and transparency assessment of private sectors.
